Marc Avi Hershberg began his career working at UBS Financial Services managing clients portfolios and debt placement in excess of $1 billion with affiliated banks, insurance pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, not-for-profit portfolios and private equity partners. While founding Topaz Capital, Mr. Hershberg works as Head of Originations and Asset Management at Brick Capital, a premier private equity and debt investment and lending firm with $250 million AUM and a leader in the special financing industry in New York. At Brick Capital, Mr. Hershberg worked along with the firm’s principals in sourcing alternative loan financing and debt acquisition opportunities throughout major U.S. Markets with a primary focus on the New York Metropolitan area.
Mr. Hershberg holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Yeshiva University and a Graduate Degree with an honors in distinction from New York University’s Schack Institute of Real Estate.
J. Etan Friedman
Managing Partner & COO
Etan Friedman began his career working at Treetop Development. He worked there for 2 years alongside the Director of Acquisitions. Mr. Friedman was involved with the underwriting, due diligence and closing of over 2500 units across North America. Mr. Friedman dealt with both “free market” and government subsidized “HUD” properties. In January 2017, Mr. Friedman left Treetop Development to begin growing Topaz Capital’s acquisitions platform. To this day he still considers the Treetop Development team his mentors.
Mr. Friedman holds an Honors Degree Cum Laude from Baruch College Newman School of Real Estate.
Barry Shevlin Esq.

Barry T. Shevlin Esq., began his career in Florida in 1985 in the Supreme Court of Florida. Later in 1987, Mr. Shevlin went on to work with the Southern District of Florida, and shortly thereafter, US Tax Court in 1988; US Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit and Federal District Court in 1989. In the early 1990’s, Mr. Shevlin founded Shevlin & Atkins, Attorneys at Law. Mr. Shevlin has more than 33 years of legal experience and is widely respected in the community. Mr. Shevlin focuses his practice on complex corporate and real estate matters as well probate litigation and estate planning. Mr. Shevlin represents buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants, in all real estate matters, from the purchase of a real estate asset, to obtaining financing on the asset, leasing the property, and in any eviction or litigation matter that may arise from owning real estate. Mr. Shevlin owns and operates over $150,000,000 of real estate primarily in the Florida markets and has over $2 billion in transactional experience.
Mr. Shevlin holds various Honors in Distinction Degrees from University of Miami School of Law, LLM, 1987; University of Miami School of Law, J.D., 1985; and University of Miami, B.A, 1982.
Mark “Mendy” Reich began his career at Ernst & Young as well as several years at a large distressed debt hedge fund, Golden Tree Asset Management, where he served as Assistant Controller handling all matters relating to accounting, tax, and financial planning.
Mr. Reich joined TOPAZ full-time to serve as their acting CFO while also acting as Managing Partner of River Edge Advisors LLC – a boutique accounting and financial consulting and back office firm. Mr. Reich has in aggregate 12 years’ experience in accounting / consulting to mid-sized corporations and partnerships. Mr. Reich’s clients over the years have included corporations, hedge funds and private equity funds. Mr. Reich is sought after for his ability to work closely with his clients in helping them understand the financial, accounting, and tax planning of their organization/s.
Mr. Reich obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from the NYU Stern School of Business with a focus in Finance and International Finance. He obtained his undergraduate from Touro College and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York.
